Brazil Leads Production with an Estimated 169 Million Tons in the 2024/2025 Season
Brazil, the United States, and Argentina are the top soybean producers worldwide. According to projections by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), global soybean production for the 2024/2025 season is expected to reach 422.26 million tons.
If these projections hold, this represents a 6.37% increase from the 396.95 million tons produced in the 2023/2024 season. The growth is attributed to increased production from the top three global producers.
In this scenario:
- Brazil is expected to harvest 169 million tons.
- The United States will produce over 121 million tons.
- Argentina is projected to harvest 51 million tons.
Ranking of the World’s Largest Soybean Producers (2024/2025 USDA Projections)
- Brazil – 169 million tons
- United States – 121.11 million tons
- Argentina – 51 million tons
- China – 20.70 million tons
- India – 12.75 million tons
- Paraguay – 10.70 million tons
Top Exporters of Soybeans
The top three producers are also the largest exporters of soybeans. Together, they are projected to export more than 160 million tons during the 2024/2025 season, with Brazil leading the way, expected to export 105 million tons.
The United States follows with 49.67 million tons in exports, and Argentina with 5.50 million tons. These three giants account for over 80% of global soybean production. Other significant producers include China, India, and Paraguay.
Major Soybean Importers
The largest importers of soybeans are China, countries in the European Union, and several nations in Southeast Asia (such as Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, and Myanmar), along with Mexico.
Once the soybeans reach their final destination, they are processed into soybean meal, used primarily in animal feed, and soybean oil, which is widely used in cooking.
