Strong Demand and High Beef Prices Drive Avian Protein Rates Up
Average chicken prices increased in October for the third consecutive month, according to the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) at Esalq/USP.
On Thursday (October 31), the price for frozen chicken reached R$ 7.53 per kilogram in the State of São Paulo, reflecting a 2.03% rise for the month. Meanwhile, refrigerated chicken was priced at R$ 7.58 per kilogram, marking an increase of 0.66% during the same period.
According to Cepea, this trend, observed in all monitored markets, is linked to strong demand for avian protein and heightened competitiveness compared to beef, which remains priced at elevated levels.
Cepea researchers explain that the search for more affordable alternatives, such as chicken, has boosted meat sales in the domestic market, allowing industry players to adjust prices upward.
