According to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, authorities also addressed the regionalization of avian flu restrictions.
Brazil has once again requested Japan to advance negotiations for opening its market to Brazilian beef exports. During a mission to Tokyo this week, led by the Secretary of Trade and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Luis Rua, Brazil also urged Japan to expedite risk assessments and permit additional Brazilian states, beyond Santa Catarina, to export pork to Japan.
These requests were made in meetings with Yoichi Watanabe, Vice Minister for International Affairs at Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF), and Shigeki Mori, Director-General of the International Affairs Department.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, authorities also discussed regionalizing restrictions related to avian flu. The Brazilian delegation proposed that Japan apply such measures at the municipal level, so that isolated outbreaks do not impact poultry exports from unaffected areas of the country.
Brazil further emphasized the importance of finalizing the Work Plan for melon exports. Following Japan’s recent approval of Brazilian avocado imports, opening the market for melons presents a new opportunity for Brazilian producers, the Ministry noted.
“We aim to establish Brazilian agribusiness as a global benchmark for quality and sustainability, strengthening ties that benefit producers and consumers in both countries. We have high expectations that issues of mutual interest will progress quickly,” Rua stated.
