Event Focuses on the Beef Production Chain
The Feicorte – International Fair of the Beef Production Chain – is back after a ten-year break, opening on November 19 in Presidente Prudente, São Paulo. The region, a key hub for cattle farming in the state, represents 1.6 million of São Paulo’s 10.3 million-strong cattle herd, according to the state’s Agriculture and Supply Secretariat (SAA).
Highlights of the Event
The five-day fair emphasizes high-quality beef production, featuring:
- Cattle and Horse Auctions: Over 500 elite animals from ten bovine breeds, including Wagyu, Nelore, Guzerá, Angus, and Senepol.
- Breed Exhibitions: Zebu and European cattle breeds.
- Educational Opportunities: More than 45 speakers delivering 40 hours of lectures covering topics like:
- Family farm succession.
- Pasture irrigation.
- Traceability and disease monitoring (e.g., foot-and-mouth disease).
- Sustainable practices and alternatives to fire branding.
“Feicorte’s return is a landmark event for livestock farming, with a comprehensive program addressing all links in the beef production chain,” said Carla Tuccilio, executive director of Verum, the event organizer.
Sustainability and Disease Prevention
Sustainability and animal health are focal points this year:
- IV Paulista Forum on Foot-and-Mouth Disease: Organized by the Agricultural Defense Coordination (CDA), the forum will discuss São Paulo’s recent recognition as a foot-and-mouth-free zone without vaccination, a status achieved in March 2023.
- Rede ILPF Activities: Promoting integrated crop-livestock-forestry (ILPF) systems as a sustainable agricultural model. Brazil currently employs ILPF on 17.4 million hectares, supported by partnerships with organizations like Embrapa, John Deere, and Syngenta.
Additional Features
Visitors can explore a 5,800-square-meter covered exhibition area hosting approximately 40 companies. The event also offers artisanal product tastings, beef harmonization sessions, and a bull parade.
