For 2024, IBGE has reduced its harvest estimate by 0.5%, to 293.8 million tons.
Brazil’s grain, legume, and oilseed harvest is projected to reach 311 million tons in 2025, a 5.8% increase over 2024, or an additional 17.2 million tons. This was reported on Thursday, November 14, by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
For 2024, IBGE has lowered its harvest estimate by 0.5%, bringing the total down to 293.8 million tons, 6.9% below the 2023 harvest.
IBGE also reported that the area to be harvested in 2024 will total 78.7 million hectares, reflecting a 1.1% increase compared to 2023.
Rice, corn, and soybeans account for 92.1% of the estimated production and 87.2% of the area to be harvested in this year’s crop.
The IBGE also provided product-specific production estimates for 2024. The estimates show increases of 14.5% for cotton (in seed), 2.8% for rice, 5.3% for beans, and 5.3% for wheat. On the other hand, declines in production are expected for soybeans (-4.9%), corn (-11.9%, with -17.6% for first-crop corn and -10.3% for second-crop corn), and sorghum (-8.7%).
