Pecanita, a pecan processing company based in Cachoeira do Sul (RS), is on the verge of becoming the first Brazilian company authorized to export pecans to China. On November 1, the company welcomed representatives from Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) for a final inspection at its plant, the last step before receiving the official certification that will enable exports to the Chinese market.
During the audit, MAPA officials examined Pecanita’s processing procedures, focusing on food safety, traceability, and adherence to international standards.
Pecanita hopes to begin exporting its 2025 harvest to China, with an initial shipment expected to be around 1,000 tons. The company is optimistic about the potential for growth in this new market.
In a statement to the press, Eduardo Basso, president of the Brazilian Pecan Industry Institute (IBPecan), celebrated the milestone and emphasized the Institute’s commitment to opening new markets for Brazilian pecans.
“This is an important achievement, and China represents a large and promising market. It opens up opportunities for the entire national pecan industry. For producers, this will be beneficial because once access to this market is secured, it creates new possibilities and better prices for everyone,” Basso stated.
