Chancay Port, Built by the Chinese Government in Peru, Will Also Provide Opportunities for Brazilian Exports

On Tuesday (November 5), Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, and the Ambassador of Peru, Rómulo Acurio, signed an agreement opening the Brazilian apple market to Peru and the Peruvian citrus market to Brazil. Until now, Peru imported apples only from Chile, making Brazil the second country to access this market.

“A good commercial relationship, as President Lula emphasizes every day, is one in which we both sell and buy. This agreement shows that we are selling our products, but also purchasing Peruvian products,” said Fávaro in a statement.

Ambassador Rómulo called the day historic. “It has been three years since Brazil and Peru were able to sign an agreement for product access. We are very happy and grateful,” he stated.

After the signing, Minister Fávaro met with the entire Peruvian delegation to discuss bilateral relations. One of the topics discussed was the Chancay Port, built by the Chinese government in Peru, which will also generate opportunities for the flow of Brazilian exports.

Currently, Brazil is China’s largest commercial partner in Latin America. Among the main products exported are soybeans, corn, sugar, beef, chicken, pulp, cotton, and fresh pork.

“Brazil, which exports a large volume to Asia, especially to China, currently uses the Atlantic route, which is much farther. This direct connection with China will be beneficial for speeding up the export of Brazilian agricultural products,” noted Fávaro.
